A FREE tennis weekend is being arranged by a North Yorkshire club as a warm-up for Wimbledon.

The Great British Tennis Weekend event is to be held at Westfields Tennis Club in Richmond on Sunday, May 14, from 10am to 1pm.

It is the first time the club has hosted the event, which is promoted across the UK by the Lawn Tennis Association as an introduction to the sport.

Westfields will be providing rackets and balls and the event is open to everyone, regardless of ability. New members who join on the day will be eligible for discounted coaching sessions, although places are limited. The club will also be serving tea and refreshments.

Westfields was founded in 1926 and is a small, friendly club with two well-maintained hard courts and a small clubhouse. It is close to the centre of Richmond, with stunning views overlooking Swaledale. It runs several group club sessions every week, and holds competitions for members.
